When most people think of a chiropractor, the treatment that comes to mind is a chiropractic adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation. Although this is one very successful treatment we use with our Weston chiropractic patients, it is often used in combination with other treatments depending on the condition.
Our Weston patients report less pain after a chiropractic adjustment … and doesn’t that say it all?
Spinal manipulation involves working on the head, shoulders, neck, back, or hips to help relieve back pain. It can range from massage and slow pressing or twisting to rapid movement or forceful pressure. Spinal manipulation is often called cracking the joints due to the often loud popping sounds that result; in reality no bone, discs, or cartilage snaps or breaks to create the loud noise, but rather it is made by escaping air or gas bubbles.
The purpose of the adjustment is to correct a spinal subluxation. Subluxation refers to a spinal bone (vertebra) that is not in its right position or not moving in its normal range of motion. Misaligned vertebrae are irritating nerves and blood vessels, which in turn affects the way your body communicates with your spine. Subluxations are the cause of many pains and dysfunctions in muscles and organs. The body’s natural ability to heal itself is greatly improved with the subluxation removed.

It is successful. Research has shown chiropractic adjustments to be helpful in treating neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain and headaches. In addition, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia respond favorably to the moderate pressure used both by chiropractors and practitioners of deep tissue massage. As Weston chiropractors, we find that spinal bones which have lost their normal motion are restored by a series of carefully directed spinal adjustments. Because the adjustments help restore the function of the nervous system, they can have a profound effect on your overall health without drugs or surgery.
It is safe. Compared to other medical treatments, which include medication and surgery, chiropractic is by far the safest. It is estimated that 140,000 people in the USA die each year from drug-related reactions and nearly 100,000 people die as result of medical errors. Insurance companies who evaluate the risks of all professions, and charge a premium based on the risk the profession poses. Chiropractors have by far the lowest insurance premium of all medical providers.
It is noninvasive. Chiropractors such as Dr. Browner and Dr. Behar specialize in natural health care, without drugs or surgery.
It can be used on any age group. Even babies can have subluxations, due to the rigors of birth. In Denmark, for example, Chiropractic Doctors are part of the birthing team. Children’s subluxations should be treated early, as they interfere with nerves that control developing muscles and organs of the body. Abnormal stresses on a rapidly developing spine and other bones and joints can cause them to develop abnormally. Your chiropractor can detect these problems while they’re easy to correct.
